George K. H. Schell is currently the founder and President of OfficeSeer LLC, a consulting company that provides a wide array of speaking and business consulting services. Most recently Mr. Schell was Chairman of the Board of the Council of Better Business Bureaus in Arlington, Virginia and currently chairs the BBB’s Advertising Self-Regulation Council.
Until June 2016 Mr. Schell was the Chief Marketing Counsel for The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia where he led Coca-Cola North America’s marketing and advertising legal team’s support of the marketing function in the U.S. Over his 20 year career at Coca-Cola, Mr. Schell progressed through several roles in Coca-Cola Legal and spent his first seven years at Coca-Cola in Coca-Cola Marketing working as a Director of Business Affairs where he was responsible for leading Coca-Cola’s negotiations for various sports and entertainment contracts including the Company’s relationships with the IOC, FIFA, the NBA, Rugby World Cup and numerous Major League Baseball, NFL, NHL and NBA team sponsorships.
Prior to Coca-Cola Mr. Schell was Vice President and General Counsel for the Oakland Athletics Baseball Company and Chief of General Litigation for the City of San Francisco. He began his legal practice as a litigation associate for Steinhart & Falconer in San Francisco after serving as a Staff Attorney for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Schell received his law degree from the UCLA School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Mr. Schell is an accomplished and sought-after speaker by business and legal associations, law firms, law schools and in-house legal staffs on the issues of leadership, career management, intellectual property, people management and diversity. Valeina Jack is a seasoned Legal Assistant with more than 7 years of experience providing top notch administrative support at successful law firms. As the Client Relationship Manager for Beyond Law, Ms. Jack focuses on maintaining the highest possible level of customer service for Beyond Law program participants. She is responsible for managing program logistics, and client communications, and she coordinates the program follow-up process.
In addition to her role with Beyond Law, Ms. Jack is the Business Development and Marketing Coordinator and Executive Assistant to Janice Brown at Brown Law Group. Her responsibilities include supporting the firm’s lawyers with their business development efforts through the use of Cloudburst® and the firm’s marketing and promotional materials, interfacing with firm suppliers, and generating administrative reports to support the firm’s financial success.
Before joining Brown Law Group, Ms. Jack was an intellectual property legal assistant at Murphey & Murphey in Carlsbad, California. She was also the founding member of the Georgetown Area Junior Forum, the newest chapter of Junior Forum, Inc., in Georgetown, Texas, where Ms. Jack promoted volunteerism, fundraising and community improvement.
Outside of the legal profession, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeremiah, and their three children, reading, crocheting and performing Polynesian dance at local events. Ms. Jack is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
New to Beyond Law, Jennifer Storm brings 15 years of experience working in the non-profit sector to support emerging and thriving businesses in San Diego. Ms. Storm is working with the Beyond Law team to grow their successful business development program for practicing attorneys.
Ms. Storm is also the Executive Director of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation’s (EDC) 501c3 Foundation. She has been with EDC for 12 years and currently manages the fiduciary responsibilities of the Foundation and EDC’s workforce initiatives. Ms. Storm’s most recent accomplishment has been restructuring the 501c3 with a new strategic focus. She established a new slate of directors, redefined the mission statement and redirected the Foundation’s program areas.
Through her tenure in San Diego, Ms. Storm has gained extensive knowledge in connecting the business community with regional educational and workforce partners. She has also built a statewide network to draw best practices to improve the business climate for San Diego.
Ms. Storm serves on various boards and committees throughout San Diego to better link industry with the broader community.
Ms. Storm graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Political Science.
Janice P. Brown is the founder of Beyond Law and the founder and senior partner in the Brown Law Group. Growing up in Montana, Janice Brown went to work for the U.S. Justice Department as a trial attorney in the tax division in 1984. Recruited right out of law school into the Justices’ Honor Program in Tax, Ms. Brown tried lawsuits on behalf of the United States in venues throughout the western United States, including Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, California and Texas.
In 1987, Janice Brown was chosen Trial Lawyer of the Year at the US Department of Justice. This early recognition would prove to be one of many honors and awards to follow. She went on to be a partner in the firm Seltzer, Caplan, Wilkins and McMahon. She also began to visualize the client-focused philosophy that would be the basis for her own firm.
Ms. Brown’s commitment to excellence has earned her numerous accolades and awards throughout her career, including the following significant awards: Department of Justice – Trial Lawyer of the Year, 1987; California Association of Black Lawyers – Lawyer of the Year, 1995; Gonzaga University Alumni Association - Distinguished Alumni Merit Award, 2010. In 2011, Ms. Brown and Brown Law Group were awarded Supplier of the Year by the San Diego Regional Minority Supplier Development Council. Ms. Brown is rated AV®-PreeminentTM by Martindale and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2007.
Ms. Brown has been a mentor to numerous young lawyers, most significantly in her role as a former TIPS Council member. In addition, she has developed programs within her own law firm that she later tested and taught to others in external law firm environments.
